Two days into the holiday road period, and the death toll stands at zero.
Police say there have been no fatal crashes so far this holiday weekend and are hoping that continues.
On Queen's Birthday weekend last year there were four crashes killing seven people, including two pedestrians.
According to Ministry of Transport statistics since 1980, the worst year was 1981 when 15 people died - the lowest toll was in 2011 when just one person was killed.
Police hope to beat that figure this weekend.
