Five holiday makers have been rescued off rocks near Kaikoura this morning.
The group, including two boys aged 12 and 14 were out collecting craypots when their small boat overturned in rough seas.
Constable Dean Schroder of Kaikoura Police said they managed to get themselves onto a reef.
He said a local tourist operator spotted them about 200 metres offshore and alerted police.
The coast guard took the group off the reef and they have been returned to their camp ground uninjured.
