A must-see for boat lovers. Interactive exhibits and galleries give a lesson on New Zealand's maritime heritage. The museum, on the corner of Hobson and Quay Sts, is offering free admission through June and July for Auckland residents.

The observatory has a range of exhibits to look at for free, or you can go for a space journey for $16. While in the area, why not wander up One Tree Hill for free.

Auckland Museum

Cultural performances, pieces of natural history and national and international exhibits - you could spend days at the Auckland Museum in the Domain. They run special holiday programmes for kids too. The museum accepts suggested donations of $5.

Kiwi Valley Farm Park

At Kiwi Valley in Henderson kids can hand-feed animals, go for tractor rides and walk farm trails. Horse and pony rides can be pre-booked.
