Pakuranga College, who had amassed 27 goals in four games, proved a mountain too high in the semis. They won 5-0 and went on to beat Southland Boys’ High in the final.
Gisborne went into a playoff for third against Taradale. The match ended 2-all and Taradale won the subsequent shootout 2-1.
Gisborne ace Ollie Egan continued from where he left off in the Poverty Bay men’s club competition, scoring eight goals during the tournament.
Gisborne Girls’ High First XI were 10th out of 22 schools at the Jenny Hair Cup in Carterton.
GGHS finished third in their pool after a 1-all draw with Napier Girls’ High, 4-1 win over St Matthew’s Collegiate, 2-0 loss to Sacred Heart Girls’ College (New Plymouth), 2-1 loss to Wellington East Girls’ College and 1-0 win against Nga Tawa Diocesan School.
It put them into the playoffs for ninth to 12th. They beat Havelock North High 3-0 in the semifinals, but lost 3-1 to Tawa College in the playoff for ninth and 10th.
Campion College were sixth out of 13 schools at the Woolaston Trophy in Whakatāne.
Campion were second in their pool — defeating Kerekeri High 1-0, losing 2-1 to Raphael Houe Rudolf Steiner School, and beating Ōkaihau College 4-1.
They qualified for the top-eight quarter-finals where they lost 3-0 to Huanui College.
Campion beat Glenfield College 1-0 in the fifth-to-eighth playoffs and were beaten 6-0 by Te Paepae o Aotea in the playoff for fifth and sixth.
Gisborne Boys’ High Second XI were eighth out of nine teams at the Lower North Island boys’ tournament in Gisborne.
GBHS lost their four pool games — 3-1 to Rotorua Lakes High, 10-1 to eventual tournament winners Taikura Rudolf Steiner, 3-1 to Tararua College and 1-0 to Tauhara College.
They beat Massey High 7-1 in the bottom-two playoff, then lost 3-2 to Tauhara College in the playoff for seventh and eighth.
