A 3-0 win over Horowhenua clinched seventh place for Wairarapa at the Hatch Cup national under-13 boys' hockey tournament in Christchurch.
Earlier, Wairarapa were beaten 4-0 by Canterbury in the quarter-finals and then lost 6-2 to Waikato in the first of the playoffs for between fifth and eighth placings.
Nathan Whiteman and Henry Phelps scored the goals against Waikato while George Robinson, Xavier Bush and Ethan Presow netted against Horowhenua.
Meanwhile, a strong finish saw Wairarapa place 17th at the Coller Trophy under-13 girls' national hockey tournament at Pakuranga. They avoided any threat of relegation by winning their last three crossover games, beating Auckland B 2-0 (goals to Annabel Butterick and Kate McAnulty), Thames Valley 2-1 (Butterick and McAnulty) and Counties-Manukau 5-0 (Poppy Lambert, Butterick 2 and Sinead Barrell 2).
