Wairarapa players Jenna Anderson and Felicity Reidy scored the goals as the New Zealand under-18 girls' hockey team scored an impressive 2-0 win over their Australian counterparts in Canberra on Friday.
The game was a hotly-contested affair, with the teams locked together at 0-0 at halftime.
Anderson, from St Matthew's Collegiate, and Reidy, from Wairarapa College, both had strong games as did the other two Wairarapa players in the national squad, Megan Hull and Morgan Percy, both from Wairarapa College.
The New Zealand team had also performed well in two warm-up games against stern opposition, drawing the first 1-1 thanks to a late goal by Jenna Anderson and then winning the second 3-1, Reidy and Hull scoring a goal apiece.
