Stihl Shop Greytown held their annual Community Family Fun Day, with visitors drawn to the Axeman versus Bushman chopping and chainsaw machismo.
"Axemen" are enthusiasts and specialists in chainsaw and axe work, but have other jobs, while "Bushmen" are forestry workers.
Earplugs were a must, with chainsaws boasting modified exhaustsfor additional power - and noise.
Axeman Brendon Bellamy, New Plymouth, said they competed most weekends, but family days were a chance to give something back to the sponsors. The event included rides in Greytown's fire engine, a sausage sizzle, face painting and market stalls.
