HIV accused set to face more charges

A 40-year-old HIV-positive man who already faces 14 charges relating to infecting people with the virus is set to face further charges.

Glenn Richard Albert Mills was back in Auckland District Court today facing 14 charges relating to seven victims, six male and one female. Five of the men have tested HIV positive.

The charges include wounding or attempted wounding with reckless disregard, infecting with a disease and attempting to infect with a disease.

Prosecutor Ross Burns sought a further pre-depositions date today as police were deciding if other charges would be laid.

"Since the publication of his identity, a number of other complainants have come forward," he said.

Mr Burns said police would need at least a month before they could proceed to a depositions hearing date on the charges.

Mills was remanded in custody by consent until July 29 for a pre-depositions hearing. Mr Burns indicated it may take longer before further charges could be laid.

Outside court, police would not reveal how many complainants had come forward or how many further charges were likely.

Detective Sergeant Andy King, head of the Auckland police adult sexual assault team, said police still had a lot of work to do and he was unsure if all charges would be laid by July 29.

Police have said Mills was diagnosed HIV-positive in May 2007 and had allegedly had an active sex life with men and women since.
