A hitchhiking tourist has been robbed at gun point in northern Hawke's Bay, losing all his possessions, police say.
The 30-year-old Mexican national was robbed this afternoon after being picked up on State Highway 2 at the Napier-Taupo Rd turn-off by three men in a ute.
"At around 2.30pm the driver pulled the car over at the top of the Mohaka Hill near Raupunga and the tourist was ordered out of the car at gunpoint," police said.
All his possessions, including a cellphone and camera, were taken. The car also drove off and left him on the side of the highway, police said.
While the man was badly shaken, he was unhurt. Police were alerted to the incident when another motorist picked up the man on the side of the road, about 10 minutes after the robbery.
