A woman killed yesterday morning while cycling to work in Christchurch has been named, but police are still looking for the car involved in the fatal crash.
Rochelle Margaret Roozen, 41, a mother of two young children and a teacher at Burnside High School, was hit by a vehicle around 7am on the outskirts of the city yesterday.
The driver left the scene after the collision at the intersection of Marshs and Springs Road in Prebbleton, which left Mrs Roozen fatally injured.
"I've no doubt that the driver must be aware of hitting a cyclist," Acting Detective Sergeant Michael Ford said.
"We're appealing to that person to do the right thing and contact police."
A number of motorists stopped after the crash happened and tried to help Mrs Roozen, who regularly cycled to and from work.
Police were talking to witnesses, but wanted more information about the vehicle and driver involved.
