A teenage boy who was allegedly deliberately run down during a gang initiation is back home after almost a month in hospital.
Seth Tera, 15, suffered head and chest injuries and was left with tyre marks on his back after the hit-and-run near his Tokoroa house on September 12.
Police allege he was chased for several blocks before being struck by a 4WD vehicle. He had no gang links but happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, police said. Speaking at the family home yesterday, Seth's mother Liz said the first thing he wanted after being discharged from Waikato Hospital on Friday was a good sandwich.
"We headed straight to Subway," she said.
After that they went to an electronic retailer to check out video games.
Seth still has dressings over his wounds and a hole in his throat to help him breathe.
Liz, husband John and the family have praised their community for the support they received during Seth's stay in hospital. The family were also grateful to the staff for their treatment of Seth.
Dion Hugh Bolt, 18, has been charged with Seth's attempted murder.
