A 20-year-old man has serious head injuries after a car mounted the pavement and struck him in broad daylight in west Auckland yesterday.
Police said the victim and his brother-in-law were walking along Waimumu Road, Massey, about 6pm when a male driver of a silver or light-coloured Nissan car drove on to the pavement and struck him. The driver did not stop.
The injured man was taken by ambulance to Auckland hospital, where he was reported to be stable today.
Police appealed to the public for any information on the Nissan, part of the registration number being WT 26.
"This vehicle will have sustained damage to the front and to the windscreen," Detective Sergeant Sean Hyland-Mills said.
"We are particularly keen to hear from panel beaters, car windscreen repairers, or other car maintenance locations that have done any work on a vehicle matching the description of the one we are looking for."
