Hit and run death witnesses sought

Police are seeking witnesses to a hit and run in which a cyclist was killed near Christchurch last week.

Jens Richardon, 34, died after being hit on the Springston-Leeston Road between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Thursday.

The next day police found the vehicle responsible at a house about 20km from the scene.

Senior Sergeant Stewart Munro said police were "satisfied" a man spoken to there had been the driver, but the inquiry was continuing.

Police today called for anyone who had seen a dark blue 1995 BMW 325i in the area on Thursday evening.

It was believed to have left Rolleston for Leeston sometime after 6pm.
