The historic Public Trust building in central Wellington is to be sold after its owners were unable to undertake earthquake strengthening.
The building, built in 1909, suffered damage to the office ceilings after earthquakes in July and last month.
Its body corporate received advice on repairing and strengthening it on Friday and decided it could not undertake the project, radio New Zealand reported.
The New Zealand Historic Places Trust's general manager Ann Neill said the character interior was a strong selling point and she would surprised if there was not much interest from buyers.
The building has a category one heritage status.
