Don't discount the Central Hinds as having a winning chance in the 2010-11 national one-day and Twenty20 women's cricket competitions.
That's the firm opinion of Masterton-based coach Doug Bracewell, who believes they still have the potential to take out the double for the second successive season, despite mixed results in their opening games against Otago. There they won the second limited-overs match after losing the first and also the Twenty20 fixture.
"Obviously we would have preferred better results but the season is just beginning, and we will improve," Bracewell said.
"There's plenty of time to make up lost ground and we won't be panicking - anything could happen yet."
But Bracewell does admit that the loss of their White Ferns pace bowlers, Rachel Candy and Aimee Burrows, has been a major blow for the Hinds.
Candy has transferred to Canterbury and Burrows is on the injured list.
"Any side would struggle to find replacements for players of that calibre and we are no different," he said. "Right now we are looking around to see what options we have and hopefully we will come up with the right answers."
Bracewell said the growing strength of women's cricket at the top level meant that bowlers of any variety had to be able to maintain a steady line and length or suffer the consequences.
"In club stuff you often find bowlers can get away with bowling three of four loose balls an over but do that at national league and they will be punished," he said.
"It's all about consistency and that's where we are struggling a bit at the moment."
Hinds win still on cards
