Aucklanders will get to see the garter banner of Sir Edmund Hillary at an Auckland cathedral today.
The banner will be presented to the dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell at a private ceremony in neighbouring St Mary's at 2pm today.
The Banner is the Shield design of Sir Edmund's Coat of Arms bled out into a square.
St Mary's will be opened to the public following the ceremony so they can see the banner, which is the shield design of Sir Edmund's coat of arms bled out into a square.
The banner of Sir Edmund's coat of arms was placed above his stall in St George's Chapel, Windsor, England. It was taken down after his death in January and returned to the Hillary family following the service of thanksgiving at Windsor on April 2.
