Sir Edmund Hillary The home of Sir Edmund Hillary goes under the hammer at Bayley's Viaduct Harbour auction rooms today.
A number of parties are understood to have shown an interest in the house to be auctioned at 2pm and one philanthropic group has been in negotiations with various parties.
Despite calls for heritage or government organisations to buy the house, Bayleys confirmed yesterday the property would be sold.
The realtors have demanded sensitivity from the media over covering the auction. A spokesman said photography would be allowed but only of the back to the auction room towards the front and not identifying certain people.
The house is valued at $1.93 million.
