Wairarapa's Felicity Reidy has been named as a non-travelling reserve for the New Zealand under-17 women's hockey team which will compete at this year's Youth Olympics in Singapore.
It is a huge achievement for the Wairarapa College pupil who was recently part of the Capital under-21 women's team, which placed third in their national tournament.
Reidy made a huge impression there with Capital coach and Black Sticks assistant coach Sean Dancer being quick to label her as one of the side's most consistent performers.
Wairarapa hockey regional development officer Jeff Workman also makes no secret of his high regard for Reidy, a Wairarapa under-18 rep and Wairarapa College first XI player who has been attending training sessions at the Wairarapa Hockey Academy since January.
''She is always prepared to do the hard yards. Her work ethic and attitude is going to take her a long way,'' Workman said of Reedy, adding her speed and elusiveness made her well suited to the forward line and midfield. ''It is great to see a Wairarapa player being recognised at national level again and, hopefully, we'll have a few more either this year or next.''
