Two people died and three others were fighting for their lives last night after a high-speed, head-on collision between two vehicles on State Highway 2 at Upper Hutt about 6pm.
The sole occupant of a car - a woman - and a male passenger in a station wagon were killed, said Senior Sergeant Rowan Ingham.
The female driver of the station wagon, a male passenger, 16, and a female passenger all suffered multiple injuries.
The injured male passenger is believed to be from Auckland.
