Police have arrested two people and are seeking a third after a high-speed car chase through Christchurch late this morning.
Inspector Doug Parker of the police southern communications centre in Christchurch said the chase lasted about seven minutes and reached a speed of 140km/h in Queen Elizabeth 2 Drive in the northeast of the city.
Mr Parker said three people ran from the car when it stopped and police caught and arrested two.
Cordons were in place and police were tracking the third person involved, he said.
