A convicted sex-offender supposed to be under constant monitoring was allegedly found in bed with a 14-year-old girl last year.
Shane Frederick Stoneham, 26, was understood to have been found with the underage girl, who was reported missing at the time, at a Porirua house by a probation officer last November, the Dominion Post reported.
The Corrections Department was responsible for Stoneham's community supervision until 2018, and he was not allowed to have contact with anyone under 16.
At the time, a contracted company was in charge of monitoring Stoneham around the clock. Corrections had not provided details, but it was understood the company's contract had been terminated.
Stoneham was released in 2008 following a three-year, nine-month sentence for unlawful sexual connection with a girl, and assaulting a Parole Board member.
The Parole Board refused on several occasions to release him early, and ordered 10 years' extended supervision as he was considered at high risk of further sexual offending.
He is in custody, and has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a police officer when he was arrested in November, and intentionally damaging an electronic monitoring bracelet and cell wall. He has also pleaded not guilty to breaching the supervision order six times between September and November last year.
The girl had presented herself to Stoneham as aged over 16, the Upper Hutt District Court heard in November, and she had said she loved him.
