High-profile Tweeters including ex-pat Kiwi Russell Crowe sent out messages of support to the stricken South Island yesterday.
The Gladiator star and prolific tweeter wrote on the social networking site: "Shout out to Christchurch, hope you guys are OK."
When a Christchurch woman named "Steph the Pagan" posted a message saying she hated the aftershocks, Crowe responded with comforting words. The film star wrote: "Any idea if Christ's College area was damaged? Hope you stay safe."
Other celebrities to show concern included Australian TV star Rove McManus, who wrote: "Hope all my Kiwi followers are doing OK post-earthquake."
Former Westlife star Brian McFadden: "Hope all you Kiwis are OK, x."
Flight of the Conchords actor Rhys Darby opted for humour, writing: "Is the Fudge shop okay??"
All Black Cory Jane wrote: "How are we all doing down in Christchurch people? Hope everyone is OK ... "
