A high profile Northland man facing sex and assault charges has yet to learn where he will be tried after his trial was aborted in Whangarei last month.
The man, who cannot be identified, has applied to have the trial transferred from Whangarei to Auckland but after the application was heard in the District Court at Auckland, a decision was reserved.
The man was excused from appearing at a callover date in May but other orders suppressing his name and the reasons for the trial being aborted remained.
The man faces 11 charges of sexual violation, assault and threatening to kill.
The trial was into its second day in Whangarei District Court when defence lawyer John Haigh QC applied to Judge Michael Lance to have the trial aborted.
The trial was stopped and the jury was dismissed but Judge Lance refused to allow the reasons for the trial being aborted to be published.
