KEY POINTS:
A 25-year-old man has gone on trial charged with murdering a teenager in South Auckland in 2006.
Jeffrey Key, 25, is accused of murdering Riki Mafi, 17, in Otara town centre in September 2006. Mr Mafi died in hospital on September 5 after being bashed, allegedly with a metal baseball bat, three days earlier.
Yesterday in the High Court at Auckland, a jury of six men and six women was selected for the trial, which is expected to last nine days. Witnesses told the court of Key shaking off attempts to restrain him during the bashing and throwing a shopping trolley at Mafi after the beating was over.
