KEY POINTS:
Repeat sex offender Jonathan Andrew Smallbon is being sent to the High Court so that a preventive detention sentence may be considered.
The Crown will make its decision on whether to seek the indefinite sentence after reports from two psychiatrists have been prepared.
Smallbon, 30, was deported from Australia after serving jail sentences for sex offending.
He then said he got out of control on party pills before attacking a man in Christchurch on December 30, tying him up, and subjecting him to an all-night sex attack.
In Christchurch District Court two weeks ago, Smallbon, unemployed, pleaded guilty to kidnapping a 24-year-old man for sex, threatening to kill, assault while armed with a knife, and two counts of sexual violation.
Yesterday, crown prosecutor Chris Lange asked Judge Michael Green to decline jurisdiction and remand Smallbon in custody for sentencing in the High Court on April 4. Judge Green made the remand.
