Act leader Rodney Hide has been given the job of overseeing public-private partnerships for the building and maintenance of schools.
Mr Hide, who picked up the portfolio from former Act Party deputy Heather Roy, will also have responsibility for special education and independent schools, Education Minister Anne Tolley said.
Tender processes could start early next year if Cabinet approves
the business case.
The Act leader has overseen Super City legislation as Local Government Minister and was a driving force behind Government widening the 90-day employment law for all new employees.
