Seven heritage building owners will receive nearly $175,000 from Wellington City Council's Built Heritage Incentive Fund.
Earlier this month, the council's Transport and Urban Development committee approved the funding towards seismic strengthening work and preserving the heritage characteristics of each building, the council's Buildings Portfolio leader councillor Iona Pannett said.
Buildings that would benefit from the fund included several being earthquake strengthened in the Cuba Street and Newtown Shopping Centre Heritage Areas.
The next round of applications for funding was open now and would close on July 7.
"Continued applications from owners of heritage buildings for earthquake strengthening purposes is fantastic to see; owners are taking their responsibilities seriously, which is good for the buildings themselves and public safety in Wellington," Ms Pannett said.
