Aucklanders should be able to the washing dried this weekend as the wet front responsible for soaking them over the past few days passes on.

Parts of Auckland received more than 40mm of rain over the 24 hours to 6 last night.

Whakatane was also drenched with 37mm in the same period.

The Whangaparaoa Peninsula received the worst of the rain for the region, 42mm falling over the 24-hour period.

MetService weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said the trough responsible for the rain had stretched the length of the country, but was moving east.

The week ahead would bring better weather, with an anticyclone and southerly winds bringing snappy but clear conditions.

The days are picked to be sunny and fine.
