After a lengthy court battle, the New Zealand Herald has won the right to publish the name of an American billionaire who admitted smuggling drugs into New Zealand.
Lawyer Marie Dyhrberg's last ditch bid to protect her client's name in the Court of Appeal in Wellington has been unsuccessful.
The Herald's campaign to reveal the businessman's identity began in January after he appeared in court on three charges of importing hashish and cannabis.
He received name suppression and was discharged without conviction.
After lengthy legal actions, including a victory by the Herald in the High Court, the case finally went to the Court of Appeal where a panel of five judges, headed by Chief Justice Dame Sian Elias, again ruled in favour of quashing the name suppression.
Name suppression will be lifted at 2:15 pm tomorrow, after which the Herald Online will publish the billionaire's name.
