The Herald has posted a strong result in the latest Nielsen readership survey, growing faster than any other news title since the last figures were released.
An average of 582,000 people aged over 10 read the paper in the year to March 31, down just 4000 on a year ago but 22,000 higher than recorded in the year to December.
The Herald readership is greater than that for the Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin metropolitan newspaper titles put together.
The Weekend Herald is read by 625,000 - 80,000 more than the nationally circulated Sunday Star Times, which saw its audience shrink by 40,000 in a year.
Herald weekly liftouts have shown strong growth, with canvas magazine up 16,000 to 433,000 and Thursday's Timeout entertainment section up 43,000 to 393,000.
The Friday Business Herald tabloid has 385,000 readers, five times as many as any other business weekly.
The Herald on Sunday readership rose 7000 on the same period a year ago to 378,000 and dominates the Auckland and upper North Island markets on that day.
The Nielsen survey is done face-to-face with a representative sample of 12,000 New Zealanders.
