The Herald's #Gallipoli100 campaign been recognised at the annual Social Media New Zealand Awards, underway in Auckland tonight.
Our campaign won the category for most effective social media campaign, small budget - under $10,000.
The campaign included:
• #GallipoliFlashback: 100 tweets from the @nzherald account telling the storyof the first 24 hours of the landings, timed to the moment they would have happened 100 years ago. • #YourAnzacDay: fans of the NZ Herald Facebook page shared their photos of how they were marking the day to act as a reader-generated digital archive of how Kiwis marked the day. • #PinAPoppy: Creation of a virtual poppy that people could use as their Facebook / Twitter and social media profile picture as well as coverphotos. Herald fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 for the RSA through virtual poppies.
NZME digitial audience engagement general manager Lauren Hopwood said: "This was a monumental effort from many people and teams, including our reporting team in Turkey who conveyed the colour and emotion of this once in a lifetime event.
"The story of New Zealand's most significant war effort was told through features, photos, video and audio all played out on social media."
The Dawn Services, and other important moments, were captured through Periscope, Instagram and Twitter so that people who couldn't physically be there in person could still be part of the experience.
"Huge congratulations to everyone involved and thanks in advance for taking the time to vote for your colleagues and helping us make sure the Herald's efforts are recognised and rewarded," Hopwood said.
