Pukaha Mt Bruce has been given two hand-crafted bench seats by Wairarapa Mitre 10s to take an initiative to save the unique takahe one step further.
Pain & Kershaw Mitre 10, Martinborough, KJ Mitre 10, Pahiatua, and Mitre 10 Mega, Masterton, have come together to advance the company's national takahe rescue programme.
Chairman of the board Bob Francis thanked the company for its donation and said the partnership was a "great fit".
He said there are still only small numbers of takahe in the country which makes the initiative important. "If we go back 50 years it was believed that they were extinct," he said.
The centre has two male takahe and it hopes to have a breeding pair in future. Mr Francis said the seat will be placed along the forest walk but the actual location was still to be decided on.
