KEY POINTS:
Home owners in Auckland City can get a free two-hour consultation on how to make their homes healthier.
The Auckland City Council is offering tailored consultations on how to design or renovate to create better living spaces.
Councillor Sam Lotu-Iiga, chairman of the city development committee, said the eco-design service would provide personalised and independent advice on home building and renovation projects. The adviser would spend up to two hours at the development site, providing tips on a range of topics.
Mr Lotu-Iiga said topics might include water and energy conservation, using low-impact building materials and reducing construction waste.
The advice was designed to promote awareness of eco-friendly practice, and help people to save money and add value to their property over time.
The service was an initiative of BRANZ and was funded through the Ministry for the Environment's Sustainable Management Fund, the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority and Building Research.
Mr Lotu-Iiga said the council's support for the eco-design service reflected its commitment to a sustainable future as outlined in its long-term plan.
