"The Wairarapa Times-Age needs to take a bow on this one for highlighting what is happening to our people. There are so many people in need."
It was awesome people were touched and wanted to help, Mr MacKiewicz said.
"It's just great to see the community coming together and banding around to help people.
"I'm just so overwhelmed. People need help."
He worries with the Christmas break coming up, many people will be struggling even more to put food on the table.
"Christmas is just going to make it so much harder for them. People will need food parcels. They are going to be in dire straits."
Meanwhile, Mr MacKiewicz is accepting anything including furniture and other household goods, to help needy families.
If you can help please call him on (06) 377 2525.
