A website dedicated to furthering the aims of the Oticon Foundation in New Zealand goes live to mark Deaf Awareness Week (September 23-30) at Oticon
"We aim to improve the lives of hearing-impaired New Zealanders by providing web-based access to our grant information, research and publications," says Karen Pullar, an audiologist and secretary to the trustees.
The foundation gives $100,000 each year to projects that increase awareness and knowledge about hearing loss. These have included groundbreaking research into classroom acoustics in primary schools, and information for architects and building consultants on assistive listening systems.
Grants have also gone towards specialist training, research and services for the hearing-impaired and visits from overseas experts.
Karen Pullar says the website will make applying for grants easier. "The Oticon Foundation website will make the process of applying for grants easier as people can find out information about the quality and range of projects that we have funded."
