Rural fire crews are satisfied a scrub fire on the South Wairarapa coast has been put out, but are checking regularly for flare-ups.
Firefighters and helicopters with monsoon buckets battled the blaze over a five hectare area near the pinnacles yesterday.
A Department of Conservation crew kept watch on the area overnight amid fears strong winds may cause it to reignite.
Principal Rural Fire Officer Phill Wishnowsky said there had been no further problems overnight, but the site would be checked regularly today. "At this stage we're quite comfortable with it," he said.
