A long distance rescue operation is under way to recover a sick fisherman.
The man is onboard a Japanese trawler in the Auckland Islands area, south of New Zealand.
He is experiencing chest pains and a high temperature.
Two helicopters are expected to reach the Tomimaru 87 this afternoon and will take him to Invercargill Hospital. The helicopters left Dunedin and Invercargill at 9am and will make a round trip of more than 900km.
