Helicopters were called out to two grass and scrub fires in the lower North Island yesterday as the Fire Service warned of extreme dry conditions.
A blaze broke out at Whareama River in Wairarapa around 11am and a helicopter with water bucket was called out to bring it under control.
A controlled burn-off near Hawera in South Taranaki got out of hand at 3pm and another helicopter was called in.
