A man was forced to wait three hours for help after he slipped on rocks at a remote East Cape settlement and became stranded.
The 35-year-old was climbing on rocks at Omaio yesterday when he slipped and fell several metres.
As he suffered a serious leg injury and due to no phone coverage in the area he had to lay on the rocks for three hours before someone found him.
The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter sent to pick him up and was able to land on a flat area on the rocks near him.
He was stabilised by St John paramedics before being flown to Tauranga hospital for further treatment.
