A helicopter joined the search yesterday for Rotorua woman Mabel Jamieson, 79.
Detective Sergeant John Wilson, of police search and rescue, said Ms Jamieson spoke to a family member on Tuesday but nothing had been heard from her since.
The Rotorua-based Tenon Rescue helicopter searched areas not accessible from the ground, including an area of geothermal activity around Sulphur Point.
Mrs Jamieson is of solid build, about 157cm tall, with white hair. She is visually impaired and uses a white cane to walk with. She may be wearing a green or blue raincoat.
