KEY POINTS:
An Auckland woman from a high-profile, wealthy Auckland family who is facing drugs charges has taken another legal step to stop her name being published.
The woman, in her 20s, appeared in Waitakere District Court last week, with Judge Phil Recordon telling her he did not accept her argument publication of her name would affect her health or risk her right to a fair trial.
He said her application for continued name suppression had failed but extended the suppression order until 4pm today to allow her to appeal his decision.
The appeal application has been filed in the High Court in Auckland, meaning her name cannot be published. No date has been set for the appeal.
Her lawyer, Mark Ryan, told the court last week police had a very weak case on charges of possessing methamphetamine for supply and having drug utensils and cannabis in her possession.
Mr Ryan said he was confident the woman would be acquitted but the stigma of the charges would remain.
