The 2002 Heineken Open is New Zealand's premier mens tennis event, and one of the first stops on the ATP tour's 2002 calendar. The event is held in Auckland and will be attended by several well ranked ATP players. Among those set to appear in the main draw include British number two Greg Rusedski, a popular lefthander, with the fastest serve in professional tennis, last year's US Open champion Russian Marat Safin, Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic from Croatia and Slovak Dominik Hrbaty will become the first player in 10 years to defend his singles title at the Heineken Open.
The tournament has been running since the 1950's.
