Toyota New Zealand has had a busy week. Its new Echo won the 2000 European Car of the Year award - and its top-range VX Land Cruiser and Corolla range received upgrades.
Details of the Corolla range - mostly centred on price and specification changes - will be released next week.
Meantime, the heavyweight four-wheel-drive 100-series VX gets a couple of electronic systems to give the vehicle a lift.
The first is Active Height Control, varying the height of the vehicle by up to 125mm at the front and 110mm at the rear.
At park, for instance, the Land Cruiser sits lower to allow easy access; on a normal road the system adopts a normal ride height; and over rough ground it jacks the vehicle up a few centimetres for added ground clearance.
Active Damping Control is a stability system, aiding straight line and cornering balance at the blink of an eye.
Both the VX and VX Limited are powered by the same 4.2-litre six-cylinder engine, producing 150kW at 3400 rpm and 430Nm between 1400 and 3200 rpm.
The VX model now comes with a third row of seats. The automatic Limited costs $101,500; the VX $84,500.
