KEY POINTS:
Around 2,000 skiers and snowboarders are anxiously waiting to hit the slopes of Mt Hutt.
The mountain is closed after 90cm of snow fell in the last 48 hours.
Staff are currently carrying out avalanche control work, clearing roads, digging out the base area and de-icing the lifts.
Skifield spokesman James Urquhart says now that the weather has cleared, the mountain should be up and running again tomorrow.
He says the business is weather orientated, and it benefits from fine days over winter.
Mr Urquhart says when the skifield is open, the Methven community also reaps the rewards.
He says the snow conditions will be fantastic tomorrow if the bad weather stays away.
