Heavy snow is expected in the central North Island this afternoon and evening.
A cold southerly moving up from the South Island will bring snow above 600 metres around Waiouru and above 900 metres north of Lake Waikaremoana.
MetService says there will be heavy rain today in Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.
