Two houses in Hawke's Bay are in danger of being washed away by heavy sea swells.
The occupants have been evacuated from the houses, which are in the coastal area of Haumoana/Te Awanga.
The sea has washed over some stop banks and is pouring into drains near the homes.
Emergency Management Officer Mark Boere says one house in particular is in danger of being washed away, with just one metre between it and the sea.
Protective sea walls by two other sea walls have been destroyed, and the back fence of one house has already been swept away.
