Heavy rain expected in the Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Westland and Nelson over the next 24 hours could bring surface flooding and make driving hazardous, the MetService is warning.
It has issued a severe weather warning for the areas and has forecast between 50 and 140mm of rain for Bay of Plenty, 80mm for Mt Taranaki, 90mm for Westland and 50mm for Nelson.
"People in these areas are advised rivers and streams may rise rapidly, surface flooding is possible and driving conditions may be hazardous," it said.
