A heavy rain warning remains in place for Rotorua and Bay of Plenty.
A fresh MetService warning issued at 10.03am said the moist northeast flow with an embedded trough over the North Island was expected to remain slow moving over Bay of Plenty today delivering heavy rain and possible thunderstorms to the region.
It is forecast to move away to the southwest early tomorrow morning when the rain should ease.
Up to 150mm of rain may fall on top of what has already fallen, especially about the eastern ranges of Bay of Plenty.
