Heavy rain and thunderstorms still continuing in Northland but should ease by this evening. A period of heavy rain today will move through the Coromandel Peninsula.
A Low just north of New Zealand is moving slowly east.
A moist easterly flow is continuing to bring bursts of heavy rain and thunderstorms to Northland. The rain should clear from most places this evening.
Also, rain is expected to become heavier in the Coromandel Peninsula this morning, but ease this evening.
Thunderstorms in these areas are likely to bring further localized flooding in intense downpours, especially in Northland.

Forecast:
Northland, further bursts of intense rain and thunderstorms until evening.
In the 10 hours from 8am to 6pm today expect a further 50 to 80mm in some areas. Intense downpours in thunderstorms may bring rainfall rates of 30mm per hour. Showers should become much lighter and less frequent early evening, and clear most places tonight.
Coromandel peninsula, rain is expected to become heavier this morning before easing this evening.
In the 12 hours from 9am to 9pm today, expect 60-80mm rain in the ranges. Heaviest falls are likely to be in the north of Coromandel Peninsula. Rainfall rates may reach 20mm per hour for a time this afternoon.
