MetService is warning of heavy rain about Northland, Coromandel Peninsula, and parts of Auckland.
A slow-moving front lies over Northland, while a strong moist northeasterly flow covers the northern part of the North Island. The heavy rain, which has already been affecting Northland, is expected to spread south into Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula later today, then continue affecting all three areas tomorrow.
In Northland, further periods of heavy rain are expected today and tomorrow, especially from the Bay of Islands southwards, where up to 150mm of rain could fall in some places.
In Auckland and on the Coromandel Peninsula, rain is expected to become heavier late this afternoon or evening, and continue into tomorrow. Up to 100mm of rain could fall in parts of Auckland, mainly north of Albany, while 150mm of rain is expected in the Coromandel ranges.
Forecasters warn that this amount of rain is quite significant, and people in these areas should watch for rising river and stream levels.
